Breaking New Ground: Jordan Joins Team Zebunisso
Have you ever been so inspired by someone's help that you decided to completely change your career path to do the same for others? That's exactly what happened with our newest team member, Jordan.
From diesel mechanic to mortgage advisor might seem like an unusual career transition, but Jordan's story demonstrates how powerful financial knowledge can be. After successfully purchasing his first home as a single father of twin boys with our guidance, Jordan became fascinated with the world of finance - something he admits he knew very little about before. He attended webinar after webinar, absorbing information about first home buying, investment properties, and even sat through Russian-language sessions just to keep learning!
What makes Jordan's approach unique is how he applies his 13 years of mechanical experience and military background to financial problem-solving. When you've been in situations where broken machinery is costing thousands per hour and you need creative solutions fast, you develop a knack for seeing possibilities where others see roadblocks. This is precisely the mindset Jordan brings to clients who might have been told "no" elsewhere.
But perhaps most compelling is Jordan's passion for breaking financial cycles. Growing up in a household where money wasn't discussed led to early financial mistakes - something he's determined his own children won't experience. As he puts it, he wants to help fellow tradies and car enthusiasts understand the importance of "getting the garage first so that you can build the car." It's this practical, relatable approach that makes him such a valuable addition to our team.

Hello and welcome back to that Homelon Hub. Today I have some awesome and exciting news for you, my listeners. I am bringing in a new person onto the team. How exciting this year has been, full of growth. Earlier in the year, Kunj has joined me. That was in January. By April we had James. By May we had June, we had Rebecca. And now we're adding in one more special person. His name is Jordan. Hello, Jordan.
Speaker 2:Hello.
Speaker 1:What was that Just?
Speaker 2:a new form of hello, I guess.
Speaker 1:Fantastic, jordan. You've joined the team. You have taken a very, very brave step. Yeah, let's tell the listeners who you are. Where did you come from and what are you hoping to achieve in this role?
Speaker 2:Oh, if they're regular listeners, they would have actually heard me on the podcast before, as a dad that went through the journey of buying his own home by himself, I guess, with my two boys, so that really inspired me. So, as I say, that whole process was really quite amazing and it was something I looked into afterwards. And now I'm here here to join the team and help other people get to where they want to be.
Speaker 1:This is really cool, like it absolutely blows my mind that someone that didn't know that he could buy a house came and saw me bought a house and then changed the industries completely.
Speaker 2:Completely, massively Come from, like a heavy diesel mechanic, straight into finance. That's a change.
Speaker 1:That's a massive change. I mean, I don't know a thing about cars. I wouldn't know how to change a tire, and if I knew how to do all those things, I probably wouldn't know much about the finance world. But here we are in reverse you know all about cars, you know all about trucks and anything to do with the trading industry, and you've decided to drop the tools and join us in the number field and helping actual clients get on the ladder. What makes you so passionate about this industry in particular? Why mortgages and why us? Why Team Zibuniso?
Speaker 2:I think, specifically the Team Zibunzu is, yes, because of you, but the way I was handled in general, like when I compared myself to other brokers that I went through and whatnot, when I went through the process myself, it was I got the attention I wanted, I got the input I needed, the hand-holding through the entire process I'm still sorry for that, by the way, but answering all my questions, I had no idea what I was doing, you know, and it really put a bit of a stage light on what I know about finance in general, and it was very little really coming from my background. So I wanted to learn more. I wanted to do, you know, like once I'd achieved my goal of buying my first home, I was like, really I can actually do anything I want, you know, like I can achieve, like, multiple investment properties if I really work hard for it, and like know what I need to do. It's more about the knowledge rather than anything, isn't it?
Speaker 1:And I remember you said through a lot of my webinars as well. I remember last year you said through my first home buyer webinars, you said through my investment property webinars and in fact, you said through some of my Russian speaking webinars as well.
Speaker 2:Just for the lols, really as well.
Speaker 1:Just for the lols, really, but that showed me commitment. That showed me someone who is hungry for knowledge, someone that wants to do well in life and someone that wants to share that knowledge as well. So big kudos, and that's why I guess you got hired, yeah thank you for that.
Speaker 1:Because it did pass to me. I remember you know the beauty of this role. I'll just give you a bit of a background here. The beauty of this role is we become friends with clients and clients become friends. And it's interesting because For me, you know, some people say, oh, you know, it's supposed to be a very professional industry and you know you have to have this clear lines. I never treated my clients in a very different way to how I would treat family. Clients would become family and to me it means giving my all, you know, being upfront where I can help, being upfront where I can't help, telling them that, look, I've got kids right now. I can't talk right now, you know not making up any other fluff that, oh, I'm in a meeting.
Speaker 2:I can't take their call.
Speaker 1:No, my kid is screaming and you don't want to hear this, you know.
Speaker 2:Yeah, but a point for you, though, is like when like we'll talk back to when I did my first home loan you're overseas. I messaged you. I was just like yeah, yeah, yeah, sweet, as like I'm just overseas right now, but straight away.
Speaker 1:Exactly. You know, for me it was never about fluffing, it was never about smoking mirrors, it was about, you know, it is what it is. We're all humans. You know, life happens and and what I've realized is my tribe, my vibe. You know, if people get me, they'll get me and they'll stick with me through whatever, and that applies to clients, family, friends and what happened between us. You know, we become friends really fast because I think you're quite straight up, I'm quite straight up, and shortly after I remember, you know, I think you already got a house and we were going through that I had to take a flight to go to Auckland and you've kindly offered to take me to the airport at like 6 o'clock in the morning and then pick me up later in the day because my car was on service, because I just mentioned to you oh, you know, my car is getting serviced and I'm flying out tomorrow.
Speaker 1:And you said, oh, do you want a ride? And I said, sure, but what struck me there was the reason. I'm telling you the story and I don't know if you remember that. But you picked me up and we're sitting in the car and we grabbed a coffee and something to bite on the way home and you said to me how do I do what you do?
Speaker 1:and to me, oh yeah, I was just curious there's a lot of background noise at the moment because you've got your two little ones out, there is that them being cheeky buggers, yeah they're playing. They're playing. Uh, it's okay. It's okay, we're going to carry on. What's going?
Speaker 2:on my two little four-year-old boys. They can be awesome.
Speaker 1:This is bring your kids to work day. But to me, what struck me there was we were sitting, we were having a good conversation and suddenly you looked me in the eye and you said how do I do what you do? And that was back in August last year.
Speaker 2:And I don't know if you remember that moment. I do, yeah, because it was, and that's why I was saying earlier, it was like getting that home and stuff made me, like I said, it made me realise that I didn't really know anything about finance, but I knew that I was, I was interested in it, I needed a lot, I wanted that information, I wanted to become, as they say, financially literate. You know so and breaking the cycle. Breaking, definitely breaking the cycle.
Speaker 1:Like.
Speaker 2:I said, my background was very we never talked about money, and I think that's quite common for most households when you're younger. I was never taught how to manage my money or what you know, how to make it work for me. I got myself in a bit of debt when I was younger, like most people. Do you know? We all want that big car, or you know, or a boat, or just we. Just we just don't think about these things, do we?
Speaker 2:and it's um, you know, I think, being like for my, my two boys as well, I want to be able to teach them at a younger age. Just you don't have to drill it into them just little things. You know, like how to like things do cost money and where they come from and how to make it work for you. Really, you know, like give them their pocket money, explain to them like if they keep it to the side and they save it up, they can get something better. You know just little things like that. I was just never taught that.
Speaker 1:So you know, it's something I've always been interested in, though and it's so cool that you want to make a change now in people's lives as well, because when we talked about your area of interest, you really want to help people like you. You want to help those tradies, those car enthusiasts you know, to make sure they make good choices in life, that they don't just spend every single dollar on upgrades on their car as much as….
Speaker 2:That's a pretty good excuse, I reckon.
Speaker 1:But you know you've got to show them the way, how to be sensible about it right. It's about saving the money for the house, for the things you need and for the things you want, and how to….
Speaker 2:It's about getting the garage first so that you can build the car Love it.
Speaker 1:Love it, love it and that's a really good way to put it through. And I know recently you've been helping a few of our clients already with their debt consolidation loans and you know you're very quick. One thing I got to give it to you and I think this is your background in solving problems, jordan is you're quick on your feet and you can think of situations, you can think outside the box and you know problem solving definitely comes natural to you.
Speaker 2:Well, natural, I think it's. I spent 13 years in the industry as a mechanic, field service. I'm ex-army as well, so a lot of those roles are very high-faith. Pace can be very faith-based. When a machine's down, it's costing thousands of dollars an hour, you know, and that customer needs that machine going as soon as he possibly can. And sometimes you do have to get a bit creative in what you do because you will be in the middle of nowhere with no access to reception or parts or anything and you've just got to do what you can to get it going again. And I think taking that mindset and bringing it to people who don't think that they can get that loan or someone's even told them no before we can look at that and really work hard to find the best way to get them what they need.
Speaker 1:Exactly.
Speaker 2:You know what I mean there's always a way.
Speaker 1:There's always a way and recently you've actually demonstrated that to me by when we were putting together some whiteboards for our new office space and I believe there was no bolt of the particular size. I believe you've done something to that bolt to make it fit.
Speaker 2:Yeah, well, in my area of expertise it wasn't really too much. But yeah, I just sharpened down the the bolt so that it would fit on you made the ball smaller, just modify it a little bit, she'll be right but that's the thing.
Speaker 1:that's the thing that you know you got to bring um. Your natural skills will overtake and um, in the next episode, you and I are going to dive into one of one of your cases that you're working on right now, so our listeners can see the things that you can do as well to help them out. And this is more of an introductory to who is Jordan and if you've missed out on his episode about his journey as a single dad, go back a few episodes ago and remember to you know, subscribe to our YouTube channel. This is where we post a lot of videos and information and please, if you can, do me a favor and follow me on Instagram. That would be highly appreciated. Now, also, the other reason you got hired was because you said you were an ex-army and I needed a bodyguard.
Speaker 2:That was actually one of the keys. Yeah, is that right? Yep.
Speaker 1:Yep, so Jordan is now my official bodyguard.
Speaker 2:For those that are listening, Well, big enough and ugly enough, so yeah, sure I love it.
Speaker 1:Together we make beauty and the beast.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that's a brilliant one. I take the beauty yeah yeah, yeah, fair enough, you take the beast.
Speaker 1:Awesome. Thank you, guys, so much for listening. This has been a wonderful opportunity to introduce you to Jordan and watch Space for more, as he will become our regular guest, sharing his case studies and his information. Thank you.
